Arthritis is a pain! How can you find relief?

Arthritis is a pain! How can you find relief?

Arthritis impacts 6 million Canadians

Did you know that arthritis affects about 20% of Canadians? That means 1 on 5 people struggle with this disease. * That is an insanely large number.

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is the swelling and inflammation of joints. But it isn’t just one disease. There are more than 100 types of arthritis and conditions that affect the joints, joint tissues, and other connective tissues. Symptoms are different for everyone and depend on the type of arthritis you have, but usually, they include joint pain and stiffness.

Managing Arthritis pain

There are many different approaches to managing the pain caused by arthritis. Some options, as per the Arthritis Society of Canada, include the following:

Heat and cold therapy. Heat, such as hot packs, hot water bottles, and warm baths, improves blood flow and circulation and relaxes tight muscles. Heat should not be applied to an inflamed joint. Cold, on the other hand, helps with inflammation. It can be applied using frozen gel packs, frozen veggies, or ice cubes in a plastic bag.

Posture. Training yourself to stand up straight, not slouch in a chair, or hold on to your phone tightly is a great long-term pain management strategy. Be aware of your posture and regularly change your position to a more optimal one.

Meditation and mindfulness help improve physical and mental health. Find a quiet location, a comfortable position sitting or lying down, focus your attention and practice deep breathing. There are many forms of meditation and there are lots of online videos and books that can help guide you.

Physical Therapy such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, massage, and acupuncture can help manage chronic pain by increasing your mobility and range of motion and reducing muscle stiffness.

Exercise. Physical activity is always important. Arthritis may limit how much you can do, but it is important to keep moving. Exercise improves strength, energy, flexibility, and mood and ultimately reduces pain.

Hi, I have moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. The latest medications are not available here in NZ. Evidence shows that topical preparations containing rutin are very effective. Does LivRelief have any experience in the treatment of eczema? Thank you very much.
SIncerely,
